Nancy Cannon – Judging Movement

I have judged color guard in the Utah High School marching band world, judged for Drum Line competitions, and movement within the Utah Circuit from school to school.

I have a BA in dance from Brigham Young University where I was a member of the dance company Dancers’ Company. I also taught dance at BYU, in Florida, and in California. I also am a WGI Circuit Movement certified judge.

I performed at Brigham Young University, UCF in Florida, Utah Valley University. Taught Orem High School Colorguard to multiple top three place finishes at the Denver Regionals. Started Envision at UVU which we placed 1st in multiple time in the Denver WGI Regional.

General Information (Personal/Work/Hobbies)

My day job is a costume designer for film, TV, and commercials, resident costume designer at Jackson Hole Playhouse. I have productions on Hallmark, Lifetime, Fox Nation, Netflix, and Amazon Prime.

Christopher Whyte – Judging Percussion Music/Guard GE

Called “hypnotic, enthralling…dynamic” (Oregon ArtsWatch), Christopher Whyte is known for his wide-ranging artistry as a performer, collaborator, composer, and educator. He has presented recitals, concerts, and masterclasses internationally in Asia, Europe, Canada and throughout the United States. 

As a founding member of the Portland Percussion Group, he is dedicated to fostering percussion performance through dynamic concerts, engaging collaborations, and the creation of new music. In October 2020, the quartet made its European debut at the GAIDA Festival of Contemporary Music in Vilnius, Lithuania performing a full length concert in addition to collaborating on Steve Reich’s iconic Drumming with the Colin Currie Quartet. 

Whyte is a member of Third Angle New Music, and regularly performs with the Oregon Symphony, the Portland Opera Orchestra, and Oregon Ballet Theater. He recently released his debut solo album on New Focus Recordings, featuring works by Lou Harrison, Sarah Hennies, Toshio Hosokawa, and an original composition for percussion and electronics, commissioned by Third Angle New Music and inspired by the process of winemaking so intertwined in the life of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. 

Whyte is currently Percussion Area Coordinator at Portland State University, has served on the faculty of Western Oregon University, and is resident faculty member of the International Percussion Institute, a summer percussion performance and research institute held annually in Aberdeen, Scotland. Whyte is currently President of the Oregon Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society and has performed or presented at the Other Minds Festival, Connecticut Summerfest, Percussive Arts Society International Convention, College Music Society (CMS), Northwest region NAfME conference, The Midwest Clinic, nienteForte Festival, Oregon Music Educators Association Conference (OMEA), the PICA Festival, New York’s Fringe Festival, and Music for All National Chamber Music Festival.

Charlotte believes that color guard – and other pageantry groups – provide an invaluable education for young people. She feels blessed to have worked with and performed under some of the most talented and skilled teachers in the activity. Charlotte performed over the course of a decade with the Blue Devils, Blue Knights and Seattle Cascades as well as Northwest Passage, Northern Lights Independent World and Blast!

Charlotte strives to provide students the same lessons she learned, fostering a strong work ethic, emphasizing team camaraderie, and commitment toward excellence. Charlotte has over 25 years of instructional experience, currently teaches at schools in the Portland metro area and previously was the Director for Compass Rose and OC Independent winterguards. Additional teaching experience includes school groups and independent groups across the Northwest, Midwest, East Coast and Southern California including Northern Lights World, Madison Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps Color Guard, Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps and Cascades Independent Winter Guard

Charlotte works in clean energy and lives in Oregon’s wine country with her husband and son.

Shad Williams – Judging General Effect

Shad has judged percussion and GE for several years for the Idaho Indoor Circuit as well as other regional events.

Performace/Teaching or Specialty Experience (WGI, DCI, College etc)

Shad has performed with symphonic, jazz, and marching ensembles throughout the Northwest as a percussionist, earning outstanding soloist and performer awards. He has been the percussion captain head for multiple high schools, most recently for 11 years with Nampa High School where he was also the Assistant Band Director. Additionally, Shad has been the Percussion Caption Head for Boise State University. He has written award winning percussion books for multiple ensembles.
 

General Information (Personal/Work/Hobbies)

Shad’s “day job” is in IT as the Global Practice Manager for End User Computing with World Wide Technology. He loves traveling with his wife, Sarah, and playing with his granddaughter who he calls the Adorable Little Menace.
